HOW TO BETTER COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SPOUSE
Have you been looking for better ways to communicate with your husband or wife? Maybe you’ve heard the statistic that 50% of all marriages end in divorce. That number is no longer accurate, today’s divorce rate has reached 65%. If you grew up after 1975 more than likely you were raised in a single parent household. If you are one of those children, you might have learned relationship communication from a TV sitcom.
HERE ARE 3 WAYS TO HAVE BETTER COMMUNICATION WITH YOUR PARTNER
1. PUT DOWN YOUR SMART PHONE
We have more distractions than ever before. Our mobile devices, as amazing as they are, can easily become a barrier in being present when with our partner. Many people today have lost the art of good verbal communication. Instead of developing and growing with our partner, it can be easy to form relationships with a screen instead. As funny as that might sound, communicating with others via a social media channel has become a reality for many. If this becomes the main form of communication, having the attitude of “unfriending” that person instead of engaging in a mature conversation can become the norm. Spend less time in front of your screens and more time in front of your partner.
Commit to spending 30 minutes of uninterrupted face time with you partner. Set aside 30 minutes each day talking with your partner in person. Cuddle up on the coach sitting close to them. Human touch is also good for our health and overall wellbeing.
2. LISTEN WITH THE INTENT OF UNDERSTANDING
Listen to your partner to learn more about them after getting an answer to something that you need from them. Relationships can become stale after a length of time together. Routines around work and family life can get in the way of connecting with your partner at a deeper level. Losing site of why you fell in love with your partner in the first place can be forgotten. Reconnect with your spouse and improve all areas of your relations including the bedroom.
Get the ball rolling by asking your partner a main question like, “tell me about your day.” Then follow-up with 2 additional questions to get a better understanding. This is especially true if your partner isn’t a talker.
